Sărățele – salty cheese sticks

I love sărățele – cheese sticks. It’s a nice snack in the evening with some wine or beer. Here you have the recipe from start, but sometimes I use butter dough – bought in the store. Cut in sticks and add more cheese on the top. Bake twice as much and keep it in a metal box or in a glass jar.

  • 100 g flour
  • 250 g soft butter
  • 200 g grated cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 egg white
  • 50 ml milk

For decorating:

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 75 g grated cheese
  • 50 g sesame seeds or poppy seeds

Sieve the flour into a bowl, add the 2 eggs, salt, egg whites, milk and soft butter cut in pieces. Knead slightly, then add the grated cheese and knead until soft and stretchy. Cover in plastic foil and refrigerate for 15 minutes.

Divide the dough in two and roll out until it’s about 5-7 mm thick. Cut in rectangles. Grease a baking tray and arrange the sticks. When finished, brush with the egg yolk and then sprinkle the cheese and the seeds on top. Bake at 180 degrees C for about 10-15 minutes (until golden)
